Doris Gall-Schuhmann is artist, designer, creative thinker and lecturer.

Elated by new challenges, she is fascinated by the experimentation with abstract forms, with diversity of colours, with tactile surfaces and the perception of spatiality. She develops new forms, aesthetics, design methods and visionary ideas – rich in detail, vibrant and inspiring.

Artist.

As an artist she works at the interface of the body, the shell and space. She develops stylistic idioms and design methods with an eye to fashion and architecture and creates textile surfaces and objects. She was also awarded scholarships: in 2019 she received the Talent Price (Talentförderungsprämie) for Fine Arts of the State of Upper Austria, in 2017 she was named fellow of the Austrian Federal Chancellery (Start Scholarship), and in 2016 she was named fellow of the Emanuel and Sofie Fohn Foundation.

Designer.

As a designer she has developed textile products for companies, supporting these through to serial production. Today she provides these skills in the form of product and design development, consulting, prototyping and conversion of textile projects in the areas of industrial design and art.

Creative Thinker.

As someone who thinks creatively, she invents concepts, visions and ideas for various issues. She experiments with form, colour and materials and creates design methods which deal with current trends in society, with the physical environment, and with Zeitgeist, the spirit of the age. In addition to her expertise in problem solving, she displays analytical skills which are the result of her spending many years developing her growing interest in mathematics, with attention to detail and clarity in both thinking and in the execution of projects.

Lecturer.

As an instructor, she gives university lectures and holds workshops in the following subjects: artistic projects at the interface of body, shell and space, design and creation of experimental and pattern-based fashion, voluminosity around the human body, pattern cutting, sewing, textile surface manipulation, creativity techniques for two and three dimensional textile design.
